Helicopter Crash

Two people in London died after a helicopter crashed into a crane in London.  One of them was the pilot Pete Barnes and the other one a unfortunate pedestrtian Matthew Wood. The crane driver was one lucky man that faithfull morning as he overslept and therefor missed the accident. About this he says “if it wasn’t for my boys not waking me up that would have been it”. His children were responsible for his life being spared as they woke up late that day.

Twelve other people were injured, five of them severe enough to be brought into hospital. After the burning wreckage from the helicopter fell into Wandsworth Road, several cars and two building caught fire. It is currently being investigated why the helicopter hit the crane.

I think this is a horrible accident that might have been prevented somehow. I feel sorry for the family and friends of the two unfortunate souls who died that day. They will carry this with them for the rest of their lives. I can also imagine how lucky the crane driver must feel! I had a friend in London at the times of the tube bombing and they slept in that day otherwise they probably would have been in that tube.

  1. I remember that this happened recently. How lucky is that crane driver that he was late that day. I always thought those high things had lights on them so that nothing would fly into it, but apparently it did not work. I am very curious what the actual cause of the accident was.
